ABOUT HIP

Why HIP?

Philosophy is often perceived as something reserved for academics, university students, or those with considerable leisure.

THE CURRENT REALITY

Young people are rarely given sustained opportunities to question fundamental ideas, examine assumptions and engage seriously with difficult questions. At the same time, young thinkers can struggle to find others with whom they can explore them.

OUR RESPONSE

We believe philosophical inquiry should be accessible to everyone, particularly during the formative years in which people develop their understanding of themselves and the world.

Our aim is not to tell young people what to think, but to create the conditions in which they can learn how to think more carefully, independently and openly.

OUR PRINCIPLES

Often, knowledge lies in the ability to step down, not step up.

No question is too big or too small.

Ideas should be examined, not merely asserted.

Never inherit a conclusion.

Understanding comes through genuine engagement.

Philosophy duly encompasses the way we live, act, and think.
